Alexandria Deaths Found to be Homicide-Suicide;
Motive Believed to be Domestic-Related

An autopsy performed this morning found that the two deaths discovered overnight in Alexandria are the result of a homicide-suicide. Initial investigation indicates that a man strangled his wife and then hanged himself inside his apartment.

The deceased woman has been identified as Belinda Ross, 31, of Fairfax County, and the deceased man has been identified as Kelly Ross, 33, of Alexandria.

Police were called to the home in the 5700 block of Reading Avenue at 12:38 a.m. after a family member asked police to check on the welfare of the estranged couple. After entering the apartment, police discovered the two deceased inside.

The medical examiner performed an autopsy and found that Belinda Ross died of strangulation and that Kelly Ross died of asphyxiation by hanging.

Police believe the motive for the killing is domestic-related. Investigation is continuing.

This is the second homicide in Alexandria this year.
