Alexandria Restaurants Offer Outdoor Dining

Twenty restaurants in the City of Alexandria have received approval to participate in an outdoor dining pilot program. For the first time, tables and chairs have been set up on sidewalks around restaurants primarily along lower King Street as well as several other streets which intersect King.
Outdoor dining along several Old Town streets was one of the popular features of this year’s Alexandria Arts Festival. In an effort to replicate the festive environment of the festival, the City Council on Sept. 28 approved a pilot program for outdoor dining in the public right-of-way for King Street restaurants (from the waterfront to the King Street Metro Station) and on the immediate blocks of all intersecting north-south streets. This pilot will last through Dec. 31, 2004 and will be evaluated for possible continuation in early 2005.
For more information about the pilot program, contact Tom Fairchild, Business Facilitator, 703.838.4227.
