Alexandria Leaf Collection Begins October 18
Alexandria’s Department of Transportation and Environmental Services will begin picking up leaves from City neighborhoods on Oct. 18. Vacuum equipped trucks will collect leaves through mid-December that have been raked to the curb.
Residents interested in participating in the leaf collection service are reminded to rake leaves into a pile in the curb line, and to pile leaves away from cars. Raking leaves into piles, rather than spread loosely along the curb, allows City crews to move more quickly through the neighborhoods. Tree limbs, rocks, bricks, and other debris that might be mixed in with leaves should be removed. These materials can cause damage to the equipment and delay collection.
City neighborhoods are divided into five leaf collection areas, each with designated collection days. Each area will be serviced at least five times throughout the program. For more information, refer to the flyers that were mailed in late September to all residents, visit the City’s web site at www.alexandriava.gov or contact the Solid Waste Division at 703.751.5130.
