Alexandria Citizen Corps Council
Holds Emergency Preparedness Public Forum

The Alexandria Citizen Corps Council will hold a public forum concerning emergency preparedness on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 7 pm at City Hall, Council Chambers, 301 King St., Room 2400. Topics for discussion include an overview of the state of emergency preparedness in Alexandria; emergency preparedness in the City’s Police Department; and emergency preparedness in the City’s schools. Thirty minutes will be set aside for public comments and questions about the best ways for Alexandria to involve, communicate with, and coordinate with residents during emergencies.

The Alexandria City Council created the Alexandria Citizen Corps Council in December 2003 as a means of increasing citizen involvement in the City’s emergency preparedness process. The group assists the public in preparing for emergencies by obtaining resident input in the City’s overall disaster response. The group’s tasks include establishing public emergency communication and education programs; identifying community groups, agencies and volunteers to participate in disaster relief efforts; and managing community resources for disaster. City Council members Ludwig Gaines and Rob Krupicka co-chair the group.

The public is invited to attend. For more information, call Laura Pettus at 703.706.3940, extension 284.
