Call for Artists
City of Alexandria’s Ornament Competition

The Alexandria Commission for the Arts developed a “Call for Artists” for the creation of an ornament to be hung on the Capitol Holiday Tree at the U.S. Capitol. This “Call” is a result of the City of Alexandria being selected as a host city of the 70 foot tree that comes from Highland County and will be sent as the “Peoples Tree” to the Capitol. It will be decorated with holiday ornaments from cities around Virginia.

The selected artist will be given $500 to cover the costs of materials and artist’s fees. Renderings are due to the Alexandria Commission for the Arts by 4 pm on Friday, Oct. 15. Late submissions will not be selected. The selected artist will be acknowledged at both the City of Alexandria’s Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, Nov. 26, at Market Square and the 2004 Capitol Holiday Tree local community event to be held in Alexandria on Sunday, Nov. 28, at the George Washington National Masonic Memorial. The Mayor will present the selected City of Alexandria ornament to the Capitol Holiday Tree delegation as part of the Nov. 28 community festivities.
