Mayor Euille and City Manager Sunderland Kick Off
National Library Card Sign-up Month in Alexandria

Mayor William D. “Bill” Euille joins City Manager Phil Sunderland in kicking off September as National Library Card Sign-up Month. During September and throughout the year, the Alexandria Library invites the community to get The Smartest Card —a library card. Requirements for an Alexandria library card are a person must live, work, own property or attend school within the city’s limits.

“Every parent can afford to give his child the gift of a library card,” said Mayor Euille. “Kids never outgrow a library card —and it’s free! If you learn how to use a library, you will learn for a lifetime.”

The Smartest Card promotion is part of a national campaign launched by the Public Library Association (PLA). The PLA, a division of the American Library Association, seeks to make the library card the most valued and used card in every person’s wallet. The campaign’s message is “The Smartest Card. Get it. Use it. @ your library.”

“A library card signifies the opportunity for endless learning and fun for people,” said Mayor Euille. “Alexandria Library provides great value, allowing our community to share resources and services that some could never afford on their own.”

Persons interested in obtaining a library card must bring in proof of address, such as a telephone bill, to any library branch.

The City of Alexandria owns and operates four library branches throughout the city.
