Alexandria Commission on Persons with Disabilities
Schedules Unique Performance and Fund Raising Event

The Alexandria Commission on Persons with Disabilities (ACPD) has scheduled a unique performance and fund raising event which will be offered in alternative formats so it is accessible to persons with disabilities. In conjunction with the Port City Play House, the Commission will present “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004 at 8 pm. The performance will be held in the auditorium of the Nannie J. Lee Recreation Center, 1108 Jefferson Ave., Alexandria.

Proceeds from the event will be used to support the Gerry Bertier Scholarship for a student with a disability seeking a post-secondary education and the Community Organization Grant to enhance accessibility to services for persons with disabilities. This year’s event will provide alternative formats, audio description for the blind and vision impaired audience, assisted listening for persons who are hearing impaired and a sign language interpreter. Dispersed seating for people who use wheelchairs will be available so they can sit with family and friends. Handicapped parking will be plentiful in the main parking area and located close to the accessible doorway.

This is a unique opportunity to showcase the talent of the performers and the assistive technology available for persons with disabilities.
