Duncan Library Will Close for Expansion

Alexandria’s Duncan Branch Library will close for building expansion on Saturday, Aug. 14, at 5 pm. Beginning Sept. 7, Duncan Library will be temporarily located at 3809 Mt. Vernon Ave., just south of a CVS store, in a building formerly a Blockbuster Video.

The branch, expanding by 5,000 square feet, will reopen in Spring 2005. The renovations include an environmentally friendly green roof, a naturally lit adult reading area, and a larger children's area. An additional entrance will be located on Commonweath Avenue.

Regular branch hours will be kept at the temporary location: Monday through Thursday, 9 am-9 pm; Friday, 9 am-6 pm; and Saturday, 9 am-5 pm. A large selection of Duncan's collection of books, CDs, videos, and DVDs will be available for check-out from this temporary location. Most Library services will be offered, including computer access, item reserves, most reference materials, as well as activities such as children story times and Live Poets Society meetings.

For more information, contact the library public information officer, 703.519.3498.
