City of Alexandria and Comcast Hold Outdoor Film Festival in the City


The City of Alexandria and Comcast will hold the City’s first free Outdoor Film Festival for families on Friday, July 30; Saturday, July 31; and Sunday, Aug. 1. The event will take place at Ben Brenman Park, 5000 Duke St.

Films that will be shown are “Grease” on Friday, “Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets” on Saturday, and “Shrek” on Sunday.

Vendors and area restaurants will sell popcorn, homemade lemonade, and food beginning at 7 pm with a portion of the proceeds earned benefiting The Campagna Center. All movies begin at approximately 8 pm (when dark). No alcohol, pets, or smoking will be permitted.

Families are invited to bring blankets or lawn chairs to sit on.

Admission is free.

In the event of rain, the event will be cancelled.

Parking arrangements for the Comcast and the City of Alexandria sponsored free Outdoor Film Festival are as follows:

* The Ben Brenman Drive north parking lot (enter from Duke St. onto the ramp into the park) for disabled guests

* The Armistead Boothe Park, which is located at the intersection of Pickett St. and Edsall Rd., and the Samuel W. Tucker Elementary School, 435 Ferdinand Day Drive (A shuttle bus will transport guests to the park from these locations every 15 minutes beginning at 7:30 p.m.).

* Overflow parking will be provided eastbound on Duke Street --guests will enter the park from Sommerville Rd.

* Overflow parking will also be provided at the Charles E. Beatley Library, 5005 Duke St. --guests will walk to the park from Cameron Station Blvd. or Sommerville Rd.

* Parking inside the park will be directed by the Alexandria Police Department.
