City’s Department of Human Services Recognizes
Faith-Based Partners at City Council Meeting

On Tuesday, May 25, City Council will award a proclamation recognizing members of Alexandria’s faith-based community who provide aid for citizens in need in partnership with the City’s Department of Human Services. The recognition ceremony will take place at the City Council meeting at 7 pm in Council Chambers, City Hall, 301 King Street.

“We are glad to have the opportunity to thank our City’s faith-based groups for their commitment to improving the quality of life of our fellow citizens and to tell them how much we value our strong partnership,” said Department of Human Services Director Debra Collins.

The faith-based community groups annually provide financial support to needy families. The groups also offer assistance with food pantries; clothing closets; transitional housing and hypothermia shelters; support of ex-prisoners in transition to the community; employment services for job seekers; sponsorship of foster children, senior citizens and families through the Holiday Sharing program; and contributions to The Fund for Alexandria’s Child.

A reception will precede the meeting at 6 pm in the Vola Lawson Lobby in City Hall.
