City of Alexandria Announces Schedule of Services
For Monday, May 31 in Observance of Memorial Day

City government offices will be closed on Monday, May 31, in observance of Memorial Day.

The Treasury and Revenue Divisions of the Finance Department, which regularly open on Saturday mornings for payment of property taxes and parking tickets, will be closed on Saturday, May 29, and Monday, May 31.

The Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces, as well as time restrictions in residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits, on May 31. HOV restrictions on Washington St. and Route 1 will be lifted on May 31.

City Schools will be closed on May 31.

DASH bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule on May 31.

City recreation centers will be closed on May 31 except for Chinquapin Recreation Center, which will open from 6 am to 6 pm.

City libraries will be closed on May 31.

Residential trash and recycling will not be collected on May 31. All collection services will be delayed by one day the week of May 31.

State offices in Alexandria, including the Circuit, General District, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District courts, the Clerk of Court Office and the Alexandria Health Department, will be closed on May 31.

The Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities is sponsoring the City’s 27th Annual Memorial Day Jazz Festival on May 31 from 1 to 8 pm at Fort Ward Park, 4301 W. Braddock Rd. Admission is free. Eric Alexander of ABC radio will serve as master of ceremonies. The festival will feature the musical talents of the Larry Brown Quintet, Christina Crerar, Swing Shift, Collaboration, Al Williams, and Difficult Run Jazz Band.
