Community Meeting Planned on Impacts of Particulate Matter from Power Plants

The City of Alexandria’s Department of Transportation and Environmental Services and Environmental Policy Commission have scheduled a community public information meeting on the “Analysis of Particulate Matter Impacts for the City of Alexandria.” The meeting will take place at the Lyceum, 201 S. Washington St., on Monday, May 24 at 7 pm. Dr. Johnathan Levy, an assistant professor of Environmental Health and Risk Assessment at the Harvard School of Public Health who commissioned the study, will present the findings.

The City implemented the study in response to concerns of the impacts of particulate matter emitted by power plants and the community’s interests in the impacts of regional and local major power plants on Alexandria. The meeting will give the public an opportunity to learn about findings from the study; provide comments and ask questions to City staff about regulatory issues status regarding the Mirant Potomac Power Plant; and learn about the City’s ambient air monitoring program.

For more information on the meeting, call the Division of Environmental Quality at 703.838.4334. A copy can also be downloaded at alexandriava.gov/tes/eq/particulate.
