Alexandria Celebrates May as Foster Parent Month

May is designated Foster Parent Month in Alexandria and now is a great time to learn more about foster parenting and other ways to contribute to the life of a child. Opening your heart and home to a child will not only enrich your life and the lives of your family, it could change the course of the child’s life forever.

In order to become a foster parent, an individual must be willing to share his or her home with a child in need, live in Virginia, be at least 25 years old, attend foster parent training and complete the home study process.

Foster parents get the chance to make a positive difference in a child’s life, introduce their family to people with different life circumstances, let their child make new friends and bond with a child. Other benefits include coverage of daycare expenses, funds for providing a child with clothing, room and board.

For more information on how to help, call the Alexandria Human Services at 703.838.0849.
