Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck By Mail Truck

A 71-year-old Alexandria woman died Sunday afternoon, a day after being struck by a U.S. Postal Service truck in the West End of the City. The accident occurred at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 24. Nabila Tarzi was crossing Menokin Drive when she was struck by the truck as it turned left from the westbound service lane of King Street onto Menokin.

The victim was transported to INOVA Fairfax Hospital with a head injury. She died there at 4:30 p.m. yesterday.

The vehicle is a 1991 Volvo truck. Its driver, Eugene V. Carter, was charged with Failure to Yield Right of Way to a Pedestrian. Carter, 57, is a resident of Forestville, Md.

The Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating this accident. Additional charges are pending the outcome of their investigation.

An autopsy will be performed to determined the victim’s cause of death. It is not yet known if her head injury was the result of the accident or a pre-existing medical condition.
