Alexandria Police Investigate Shots Fired;
No Injuries Reported, Suspect in Custody

Today, at 9:34 a.m., an Alexandria woman reported that her estranged husband was suicidal and had access to weapons. Approximately 15 minutes later, police received calls for shots fired outside Landmark Mall at 5801 Duke Street. The woman believed that her husband may have been involved. Officers responded to the scene but the suspect was no longer there.

Within minutes the suspect called police and indicated that he wanted to surrender. He stated that he was at Bradlee shopping center (3600 block of King Street). Officers located him in his pick-up truck in the Bradlee parking lot and took him into custody. A handgun was located and secured.

Police have not located any victims or evidence of injury to anyone at Landmark Mall or Bradlee. Investigation is continuing.

The suspect, a 31-year-old Alexandria man, was taken to INOVA Alexandria Hospital for a mental evaluation. Criminal charges are pending.
