Women’s History Walk Planned for Women and Girls’ Wellness Month

The Alexandria Commission for Women is co-sponsoring the first-ever Alexandria Women's History Walk on April 17 from 10 am to noon. The rain date is April 24. Residents can learn more about the wonderful Alexandria women who have made the City great, from African-American women who opened the first schools for children in the 1700s to innkeepers who hosted George Washington.

Residents can join Commission members for a stroll, brisk walk, or even a jog to see famous women's history sites throughout the Old Town area. The walk begins at Lyles-Crouch School, 530 S. St. Asaph St. Residents can choose which self-guided tour they want to take, and how far they wish to walk. The Commission for Women will have displays, health screenings and exhibits at the school. The cost to participate is $10 to pre-register or $15 on the day of the event. Residents can pre-register by calling the Office on Women at 703.838.5030 or going to the web site at www.alexwomen.com .

For more information, call Lisa Baker at 703.838.5030.
