Alexandria Offers Samuel Madden Commemorative Bricks

Alexandria now offers Samuel Madden Homes commemorative bricks for $25, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA) scholarship fund for public housing students. The bricks were collected from the roughly 100 homes that were torn down in 2003 to make way for a new, mixed-income community. The bricks, most of which were made in the 1940s, were cleaned and a brass plaque commemorating the occasion was attached.

The scholarship program of ARHA is designed to assist students who are residents of public or assisted housing in the City of Alexandria and have demonstrated exceptional scholastic ability and a need for supplemental income to meet college expenses.
