MEDIA ADVISORY For Information Call: For Immediate Release: Cheryl Anne Powalisz (703) 838-6348 February 27, 2004 PUBLIC EXHIBITION DUKE STREET CONCOURSE PROJECT The Selection Panel for the Duke Street Concourse project is recommending C. Ashley Spencer, a local muralist, to create six artistic panels for the Duke Street Concourse. The Duke Street Concourse public art project provides an opportunity for artists to place their artwork on one of twelve panels which are incorporated into the design of the new concourse project. The concourse is located under Duke Street and will connect the King Street Metro to the Carlyle neighborhood and the new Patent and Trademark Office. A public exhibition for the Duke Street Concourse is scheduled during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) on February 27-March 15, 2004 at the Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities Department’s offices located at Lee Center, 1108 Jefferson Street, Alexandria. The exhibition features Spencer’s renderings of the proposed panels. Members of the community are invited to write comments in a guest book or provide comments in writing to the Alexandria Commission for the Arts, 1108 Jefferson Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. This exhibition is required by the City of Alexandria’s policy for acquisitions/commissions of new artwork and allows for public comments. After the Alexandria Commission for the Arts receives public comments/responses, it will make a formal recommendation to City Council.
