City Employees Honored for Outstanding Service to Alexandria The Alexandria Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees) honored City employees during the annual Community Appreciation Night on Feb. 23. The Community Appreciation Night honors City employees of Jaycee, age 21-39, who have distinguished themselves by providing outstanding service to the residents of Alexandria. The honorees were: Jeannine Robinson, an Emergency Rescue Technician for the City. In addition to volunteering for Christmas in April and raising funds for the Fire Department basketball team, Robinson has been part of the Black Professional Fire Service Employees’ Christmas Toy Drive and Party for five years and is a constant force for good in the Alexandria community. Detective Ed Milner, a seven-year veteran of the Alexandria Police Department, was honored not only this year, but also in 2000. Currently assigned to the Property Recovery Unit, Detective Milner recovered over $225,000 worth of stolen property in less than a year. In the past decade, no other City employee has twice won a Jaycee Community Appreciation Night Award. Angela Veney Lynch, a Solid Waste Inspector for the City’s Department of Transportation and Environmental Services. Lynch is responsible for enforcing he City Ordinance for Solid Waste, maintaining the distribution and repair of refuse carts and recycling bins. She has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to customer service and professional competence. Deputy Sheriff David G. Holcomb, who, in addition to working in the Sheriff’s Office, served in the U.S. Army in both “Desert Storm” and “Desert Shield.” In addition to being one of the best Field Training Deputies, Holcomb is a member of the Sheriff’s Honor Guard and a Field Training Deputy where he is assigned to the Detention Center and performs the function of a Special Management Deputy. As a Special Management Deputy, he works with inmates who require additional services because of their mental health or substance abuse needs. Leslie Peterson, the director of budget and finance for the Alexandria City Public Schools. In this position, Peterson is responsible for the operating and capital improvement budgets, finance, purchasing, and enrollment forecasting. She is also the president of the Vienna Theatre Company. # # # |
