Alexandria Announces Community Meeting on Development
Of Second Presbyterian Church Site

The City of Alexandria is hosting a community meeting to discuss the proposed development of the Second presbyterian Church site at 1400 Janney’s Lane. The public is invited to attend the meeting, which will take place on Feb. 25 at 7:30 pm in the Bishop Ireton High School Auditorium, 201 Cambridge Rd.

The site has been used by the Second Presbyterian Church since the early 1960s. It consists of a church building, two surface parking lots and a single-family house that is approximately 90 years old. The remainder of the site contains 31 trees and open space along the frontage of Quaker and Janneys Lanes.

The plan to develop the 6.07 acre lot consists of 10 subdivided lots. Two of these lots will be voluntarily donated by the developer for public open space at the corner of Quaker and Janneys Lanes. The donation will result in approximately 48,612 square feet of open space for the benefit of the community. In addition, 21 of the 32 trees will remain after development, and, therefore, most of the tree canopy on the site. In total, approximately 41% of the site will remain as open space.
