PROGRAMS SCHEDULED TO HONOR
MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.

The public is invited to participate in programs in Alexandria to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. The 31st Annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Memorial Program is scheduled for Jan. 15, 7:30 pm at the Immanuel Church-On-The-Hill, 3606 Seminary Rd. Rev. Chris Hobgood, General Minister and President of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of the U.S. and Canada, will be the guest speaker. Music will be provided by Reunion ICUA/ECS Nova Chorus. The program is sponsored by the City of Alexandria in cooperation with local religious, civic and social organizations.

Other activities scheduled are:

Jan. 11, 7:30 pm: A Salute to the Life of Dr. King at Harvest Assembly Baptist Church, 8012 Fordson Rd. Guest speaker is Rev. Augustus Henderson. The event is sponsored by the Baptist Ministers’ Conference.

Jan. 16, 7:30 pm: A Youth Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King at the Departmental Progressive Club, 411 Gibbon St. The event is sponsored by the Departmental Progressive Club.

Jan. 17, 2-4 pm: Step Toward Race Unity at Landmark Mall/Center Court Atrium, 5801 Duke St. This event is sponsored by Alexandria Bah`a’i Assembly.

Jan. 19, 1-3 pm: Martin Luther King Media Presentation and Exhibit in the Vola Lawson Lobby of City Hall, 301 King St. Co-sponsors are the Alexandria Society for the Preservation of Black Heritage and the Alumni Association of Parker-Gray High School.
