Critical Accident Turns Fatal; Pedestrian Dies


The victim, Michael E. Todd, a 54-year-old male and resident of Stafford County, has died as a result of an accident which occurred on Friday night, December 19, at the intersection of Duke Street and Callahan Drive. Todd was pronounced dead at 5:15 p.m. yesterday at the Washington Hospital Center.

The Alexandria Police Department began their investigation Friday evening, at approximately 5:38 p.m., after receiving a call of a pedestrian struck at the intersection of Duke Street and Callahan Drive.

The motorist who struck the victim, a 43-year-old female and resident of Fairfax County, was driving her 1992 silver four-door Ford Escort at the time of the accident. She was traveling eastbound on Duke Street and made a left turn onto Callahan Drive. Medic units arrived on the scene and attended to the victim. The victim, who was in critical condition as a result of his injuries, was flown by helicopter to the Washington Hospital Center where he underwent surgery.

The Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and continue to investigate this accident. The exact cause and circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation and no charges have been placed.
