Alexandria Police Investigate Suspicious Death;
Sheriff’s Wife Found Dead Inside Residence

The Alexandria Police Department is investigating the suspicious death of Nancy Dunning, a 56-year-old Alexandria woman. Mrs. Dunning is the wife of Alexandria Sheriff James H. Dunning.

Police were called to the Dunning residence in the 200 block of West Mount Ida Avenue at 12:36 p.m. today for a “trouble unknown” call. Police and medics arrived and found Mrs. Dunning deceased inside. Because of the nature of her injuries, detectives believe the death is suspicious.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
