Public Comments Sought Regarding Quality of Four Mile Run

The public is invited to comment on the development of an Implementation Plan (IP) for the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) for fecal coliform bacteria in Four Mile Run. A public meeting on the development of the IP will be held on Dec. 10 at 7 pm in Room 10 of the Fairlington Community Center, 3308 S. Stafford St., in Arlington. A TMDL for bacteria in Four Mile Run was approved by EPA on May 31, 2002 and is available on Department of Environmental Quality’s website at http://www.deq.state.va.us/tmdl/apptmdls/potrvr/fourmlrn1.pdf.
The Four Mile Run impaired segment is located in Arlington County, Fairfax County, the City of Falls Church and the City of Alexandria. It begins at the headwaters of Four Mile Run and extends downstream to river mile 1.46, approximately 0.27 river miles upstream of Mount Vernon Avenue Bridge.

The public comment period will end on Jan. 8. Questions should be addressed to Kate Bennett, Department of Environmental Quality, 13901 Crown Court, Woodbridge, VA, 22193, telephone 703.583.3896, Fax 703.583.3841, or e-mail kebennett@deq.state.va.us .
