Alexandria Announces Budget Public Hearing

The Alexandria City Council will hold a public hearing on Nov. 25 at 7:30 pm in City Hall, 301 King St., to allow members of the public to offer comments regarding the upcoming Fiscal Year 2005 budget. The hearing will take place during the Council’s regularly scheduled Tuesday legislative meeting. This budget is in the process of being prepared, and will be submitted to council in mid-March. This budget planning public hearing will be in addition to the traditional public hearing, which is in April of each year, on the City Manager’s proposed submitted budget.

Early budget projections reflect a difficult budget year, particularly in light of continued fiscal challenges at the state level and slower City tax revenue growth, coupled with significant capital improvement project budget needs. The public is encouraged to attend the hearing to present the needs and priorities of organizations within the City. Alternatively, writing or e-mailing City Council or City Manager Phil Sunderland would be helpful.

Anyone wishing to speak should complete a speaker’s form, available in the City Clerk’s Office in City Hall. Individuals with disabilities who require assistance or individuals needing special arrangements, such as translation services or language interpreters, to participate in the City Council meeting may call the City Clerk and Clerk of Council’s Office at 703.838.4500 (TTY/TDD 703.838.5056). A 48-hour notice is requested so that the proper arrangements can be made.
