Alexandria City Council Approves Proclamation for
“Feed America Thursday” and
Announces Food Drive

The Alexandria City Council approved a proclamation last night (Nov. 11) declaring Nov. 20, 2003 as Feed America Thursday. As part of this national event, the proclamation encourages Alexandrians to fast on Nov. 20 for two meals, and to donate the money they would have spent on those two meals to a charitable or religious organization of their choice.

In announcing the proclamation, Mayor William D. Euille also said that the City will place boxes in City government buildings to collect donations of food. Citizens can deposit non-perishable food in boxes located in the lobbies of City Hall, 301 King St.; the Lee Center, 1108 Jefferson St.; and the Department of Human Services, 2525 Mt. Vernon Ave. through next Friday, Nov. 21.

The Department of Human Services is coordinating the collection and distribution of food donations. Donations will be given to the Salvation Army, ALIVE! (Alexandrians Involved Ecumenically) and Grace Episcopal Church.

A copy of the proclamation is available on the City’s web site www.ci.alexandria.va.us or at https://dockets.alexandriava.gov/fy04/111103rm/di9.pdf
