Alexandria Police Identify Art Thief;
Sharon J. Walker Wanted on Multiple Grand Larceny Charges
The Alexandria Police Department has obtained arrest warrants for Sharon J. Walker in connection with a series of art thefts in Old Town Alexandria. Walker was identified last week after police received tips from people who recognized her on security video that was broadcast on the local news.
Walker is facing charges of Grand Larceny for the October 22 thefts from two art galleries in Old Town. Specifically, Walker is charged with stealing a painting entitled “Pears” from the Principle Gallery at 208 King Street and a painting of Loew’s Capital theatre from Studio Antiques at 524 North Washington Street. A security camera captured Walker entering Studio Antiques just before the theft.
Investigation continues into at least ten other thefts of paintings, sculpture and antiques from Old Town galleries which occurred in the past year. Police believe Walker may be involved in many of those thefts.
Sharon J. Walker, age 46, is a light-complected black female. She is 5-feet, 3-inches tall and weighs 130 pounds. She uses multiple aliases including Sharon Campbell and Tamica Walker. She frequents Washington, D.C., and may be driving a blue, four-door Nissan Sentra. She is also wanted in Arlington for Failure to Appear on an unrelated charge.
