[Archived] Alexandria Announces Schedule of Services for the Thanksgiving Holiday, Thursday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Nov. 28

City government offices will be closed on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Treasury and Revenue Divisions of the Finance Department, which are regularly open on Saturday mornings for payment of property taxes and parking tickets, will be closed on Nov. 27, Nov. 28, and Nov. 29.

City Schools will be closed on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28.

There will be regular residential trash and recycling collection on Nov. 27.

All City of Alexandria recreation centers will be closed on Nov. 27. On Nov. 28, the Charles Houston, Cora Kelly, William Ramsay, Nannie J. Lee, and Mt. Vernon recreation centers will be open from 9 am to 6 pm. The Chinquapin Park Recreation Center will be open from 6 am to 6 pm. The Patrick Henry, Charles Barrett, and all part-time recreation centers will be closed on Nov. 28.

In addition, all City libraries will be closed on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28.

There will be no DASH bus service on Nov. 27, but DASH will operate on a regular weekday schedule on Nov. 28.

In accordance with Virginia State Law, the Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces as well as time restrictions in residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28. All other parking regulations will be in effect. Additionally, HOV restrictions on Washington St. and Route 1 will be lifted on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28.

State offices in Alexandria, including Circuit, General District, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District courts, the Clerk of Court Office and the Alexandria Health Department will be closed on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28.

On Nov. 28, the City of Alexandria will hold its annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at 7 pm on Market Square, 301 King St. For additional information on the ceremony, call 703.838.4686.
