City Announces Free Parking Hours for Holiday Shopping and Dining

In an effort to encourage residents and visitors to shop and dine in Alexandria throughout the extended holiday season and thereby support Alexandria’s store and restaurant owners, the City of Alexandria announced that beginning Nov. 1, parking at all City owned garages, parking lots, and parking meters will be free after 5 pm on weekdays and free all day on Saturdays and Sundays. These changes will be in effect through Dec. 31, 2003.
The cost for parking before 5 pm on weekdays at City garages, parking lots, and parking meters remains the same, and the changes do not apply to private parking facilities in the City. Anyone entering City garages and lots before 5 pm and leaving after 5 pm would only pay from the time entering until 5 pm. In addition, parking restrictions on Alexandria’s non-metered streets remain the same.
This is the third year Alexandria has provided free holiday season parking. For more information about the parking changes, contact the City Manager’s Office at 703.838.4300.
