In his new position, Johnson will be responsible for developing and managing the City's budget as well as its multi-year capital improvement program, for implementing improved performance management systems for the City government, as well as supervising special analytical studies related to improving the efficiency and the effectiveness of the City government.

In announcing his appointment, City Manager Philip Sunderland stated, "The City of Alexandria is fortunate in having a person of Bruce Johnson's vast experience and skills joining the City staff. This, when combined with his passion for the City and making it an even better place to live and work, makes his hiring especially noteworthy."

Johnson received his Bachelor's Degree in government from Harvard University, a master's in public policy and a juris doctor degree from Duke University. He is a Certified Government Financial Manager, has served as the President of the Federal Executive Institute Alumni Association, and was a member of the Board of Visitors of the Duke University School of Public Policy. Two sons have graduated from T.C. Williams, and their daughter currently attends school there.

Mr. Johnson said, "I am extremely pleased to join the highly capable group of people who serve the citizens of the City of Alexandria. I look forward to serving with them and maintaining the City's fine tradition of excellent financial management."
