Alexandria Police Identify Suspect in Old Town Burglaries;
D.C. Man Facing Charges for Break-In Caught on Tape

Alexandria detectives have identified a man believed to be responsible for a series of burglaries in Old Town this spring. Detectives have obtained a warrant charging Thomas Alvin Millner, 43, with the May 11 burglary of a restaurant at 628 North Saint Asaph Street. Security cameras captured this break-in on videotape which was distributed to the media with hope of identifying the suspect.

Millner was arrested last week at his home at 928 Hilltop Terrace in Southeast Washington, D.C. He is being held at the D.C. jail pending extradition to Alexandria.

Millner was developed as a suspect after he was arrested in Alexandria on July 27 for the attempted burglary of another business in Old Town. In that case, officers responded to the report of a burglary in progress at 430 South Washington Street and discovered the suspect walking behind the business. He was arrested and charged with Attempted Burglary.

Detectives recognized that Millner resembled the suspect caught on tape in the May 11 burglary and upon further investigation, they obtained a warrant charging Millner with that offense. He was arrested without incident on Thursday, August 7.

Though investigation is continuing, detectives believe that Millner may be responsible for nearly two dozen burglaries of businesses in Old Town which began early this year.
