Alexandria Police Investigate a Critical Accident;
Head-On Collision with Serious Injuries

The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a critical accident in the 1400 block of North Beauregard Street which occurred last night at approximately 10:30 p.m. The victims, Philip Berg, a 51-year-old male and Daniel Gurara, an 18-year-old male, both City residents, collided while traveling on North Beauregard Street.

Berg was driving his 1992 four-door Nissan Sentra the wrong way in the southbound lanes of North Beauregard when he struck Gurara’s 1995 two-door Honda Civic head-on. Medic units arrived on the scene and attended to both victims. Berg was unconscious at the scene and was in serious condition as a result of his injuries. He was flown by helicopter to Washington Hospital Center where he is listed in critical condition. Gurara was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital for his non-life threatening injuries.

The Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and began their investigation. The exact cause and circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation however, alcohol appears to be a contributing factor.
