Alexandria Police Charge Man in Homicide;
Victim Tentatively Identified

Alexandria detectives have charged Momolu Sirleaf, a 30-year-old man of no fixed address, with yesterday’s fatal stabbing. The victim has been tentatively identified as a 39-year-old Laurel man. His name will be released after positive identification.

Police responded to the area of North Early and Duke Streets on Tuesday evening for the report of a critically injured man. The man was taken by helicopter to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Initial investigation reveals that the man was stabbed at a residence in the 3900 block of Taney Avenue. The victim ran down North Early Street for help and collapsed. The suspect fled from the area in a silver Lexus GS 300, which officers spotted on Duke Street. Police pursued the vehicle onto northbound I-395. The vehicle stopped near the Glebe Road exit and two subjects attempted to flee. Police apprehended both nearby.

The subjects were transported to Alexandria police headquarters and interviewed. Police determined that the passenger in the Lexus was a witness and he is no longer being detained. The driver, Sirleaf, was arrested and charged with Murder. He is being held without bond at the Alexandria jail.

While detectives believe the victim and suspect knew each other, their exact relationship and a motive for the murder are undetermined. Investigation is continuing.

Note: Because of the need to interview additional witnesses, a photo of the suspect is not being released at this time.
