Alexandria Prepares for Possible Heavy Rains

In preparation for the heavy rains forecast for this afternoon, tonight and tomorrow, the City of Alexandria is taking the following steps:
• A trailer with sandbags was parked this morning at the intersection of King and Union Streets. The sandbags may be picked up for use by residents and businesses.
• One pallet of sandbags has been placed at each of these intersections: Pitt and Gibbon and Commonwealth Avenue and Reed Avenue for use by residents and businesses.

• The City website has been updated (icon: "Flood Information") with flood prevention information and flood cleanup information. Residents and businesses with flood concerns may also call 703.548.6257.
The Potomac River is several feet below flood stage. The next high tides are anticipated at 11:04 pm tonight, 11:06 am and 11:45 pm tomorrow (Thursday), and 11:53 am on Friday, July 4. Depending on the track of the storm, and the amount and intensity of rain and wind, if flooding occurs in Alexandria, it may be local rather than river flooding.
