Euille Appointed to Serve on Newly-Created Council on Virginia’s Future

Mayor-elect William E. Euille has been appointed by Governor Warner to the Council on Virginia’s Future. Euille is one of seven non-legislative citizen members on the 18-member Council. The Council will recommend long-term objectives for the Commonwealth and advise the governor and General Assembly regarding the progress toward these objectives.

The Council’s focus will be a planning process called “Roadmap for Virginia’s Future.” This “Roadmap” aims to develop guiding principles to better direct the Commonwealth’s budget and objectives, conduct an analysis of core state service, align state services with the Council’s long-term objectives, institute a planning and performance management system, and perform plan adjustments based on public input and an evaluation of the Roadmap’s results.

The Council’s efforts will allow for greater strategic planning on behalf of the Commonwealth. By January 2004, the council will recommend to the governor and the General Assembly legislation defining the vision, objectives, and performance measures for state government. The objectives will be reviewed by the Council every two years.

Euille will serve on the Council beginning July 1, 2003, until June 30, 2005. Other individuals comprising the Council include the governor, two cabinet secretaries, and eight legislative leaders.
