Groundbreaking Scheduled for Alexandria Skatepark

Groundbreaking ceremonies are scheduled for Alexandria’s first park for skate boarding on June 15 at 3 p.m. The groundbreaking will be held at the future home of the Alexandria Skatepark, Luckett Field Park, at the corner of Duke Street and Wheeler Avenue.

The City Council approved a special use permit for the skatepark last September. The park, which will be operated by the Alexandria Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities Department, will provide a safe, confined area for youth to skate.

The public is invited to the groundbreaking ceremony which will include skateboard demonstrations and a raffle for a new Toyota. Proceeds from the raffle will be used to purchase equipment for the park.
