Alexandria Seeks Citizen Input on Transportation Needs
The City of Alexandria will hold two identical public meetings to help develop the transportation element of the City Master Plan on June 3 at Samuel Tucker Elementary School, 435 Ferdinand Day Dr., and June 4 at Minnie Howard Ninth Grade Center, 3801 W. Braddock Rd. All meetings will take place from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Informal presentations will be held at 8 pm and again at 9 pm.

These public meetings will summarize findings from the project kickoff Open Houses held in March and explore ways to enhance bicycle and pedestrian travel in the City. Public input is essential to developing this transportation program.

The City of Alexandria population is growing and changing. With this growth have come more people, more bicycles, more vehicles, more transit and increasing congestion along major roadways. In response, the City is developing a Comprehensive Transportation Policy and Program to ensure that new infrastructure plans are well thought out, guide future transportation needs, provide a tool to properly address growth demands, improve traffic safety, and reduce congestion.

The City of Alexandria encourages community members to participate in the planning process by voicing their concerns and contributing suggestions to the Project Team. In addition to providing input in person at one of the open houses, individuals may address comments to: Tom Culpepper, Deputy Director of Transportation and Environmental Services, 301 King St., Room 4100, City Hall, Alexandria, VA 22314 or call 703.838.4966.
