Alexandria to Host 'Adoption Saturday'
To Celebrate City's Adoptive Families

The Alexandria Circuit Court, in partnership with the Alexandria Division of Social Services Department, will celebrate new families that have been brought together through adoption at Alexandria's Adoption Saturday, May 31.

Commissioner Maurice A. Jones, Virginia Department of Social Services, will participate in the Adoption Saturday celebration along with judges from the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, state and local elected officials. Ms. Cheryl Clarke, Director, Foundation Giving, Freddie Mac Foundation, will be the featured speaker. The program will include a court ceremony which will make children who have been placed with an adoptive family a permanent member of the family. Additional recognition will be given to the families and their friends, as well as the many social service professionals that made adoptions possible. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony.

The children being adopted originally came to the attention of the court due to cases of abuse or neglect. Fortunately, loving, supportive people have opened their homes and hearts and will become their permanent family. Adoption Saturday will celebrate their commitment to one another and the bright futures ahead of them.

There are hundreds of children in Alexandria that need love, stability and support. Through Alexandria's OK! Our Kids- Our Business campaign, the Alexandria Child Welfare Partnership seeks to increase the number of adoptive families in Alexandria. For more information about Adoption Saturday, or about how to become an adoptive parent, call the Alexandria Division of Social Services at 703.838.0766.
