Alexandria Police Apprehend Escaped Juvenile Suspect

Tonight, at 9:45 p.m., Alexandria police apprehended Emmanuel Taboko who had escaped earlier today from the Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Home in Alexandria. Taboko, a 17-year-old from Arlington, was found hiding in a tree near 6149 Edsall Road. He was arrested without incident.

Taboko had escaped from the facility about 4:45 p.m. today after forcing his way through multiple steel doors. He then climbed over a barbed wire fence and fled. He was apprehended just a couple blocks from the detention home which is located at 200 South Whiting Street.

Alexandria police acknowledge with great appreciation the assistance of the helicopter units from the United States Park Police and Fairfax County Police Department. K-9 units from Fairfax police also assisted in the search.

Taboko is being turned over to Arlington County police who had originally charged him with an attempted sexual assault last month. Criminal charges related to the escape are pending.
