Alexandria City Council Appoints New City Clerk

The Alexandria City Council has appointed Jackie Henderson to the position of City Clerk and Clerk of Council. She will replace Beverly Jett, who is retiring in the early summer after 33 years of City service.

Ms. Henderson will begin her work as City Clerk on June 2. The City Clerk’s duties include preparing the docket and recording minutes for City Council meetings, maintaining all records of legislative hearings, and serving as the official custodian of the City Seal.

Ms. Henderson has worked for the City of Fairfax since 1979. She became the Deputy City Clerk and was responsible for attending and recording meetings of the Planning Commission.

In 1982, she was appointed Fairfax City Clerk, the position in which she has served for the last 21 years.
