Citizen Input Sought on Alexandria’s Transportation Needs

The City’s Transportation & Environmental Services Department (TES) has scheduled a series of “Open House” meetings to obtain community input about the City’s Comprehensive Transportation Policy. The community’s response to the City’s transportation goals, objectives, and policies is the second of three phases in this development project.

Because Alexandria’s population and workforce is steadily growing, the number of vehicles and bicycles in the City continues to increase. Additional traffic means more congestion on roadways and an increase on transit system demand. Identifying future transportation needs for all modes of travel is a part of this plan.

Three sets of “open house” community meetings are scheduled. The first set of meetings are:

March 18 Samuel W. Tucker Elementary School, 435 Ferdinand Day Drive
March 19 Minnie Howard Ninth Grade School, 3801 West Braddock Road
March 20 George Washington Middle School, 1005 Mount Vernon Avenue

Each meeting is scheduled from 7:30 until 9:30 p.m. An overview of project presentations will be given from 8 until 9 p.m. Community members will be able to share views on the transportation goals with staff and consultant team members. Citizens can also send comments to Tom Culpepper, Project Engineer and Deputy Director of TES, via e-mail at tom.culpepper@ci.alexandria.va.us or by mail at 301 King Street #4100, Alexandria, Va. 22314. Contact 703.838.4966 ext. 236 for additional details.
