Campagna Center Before and After School Program
Accredited by the National School-Age Care Alliance

The City of Alexandria announces that its model before and after school program at the Samuel Tucker Elementary School, operated by The Campagna Center, has been accredited by the National School-Age Care Alliance.

Katherine Morrison, Executive Director of the Campagna Center, said, “The Campagna Center is grateful to the City for its forward-thinking support of after school programs for so many years and proud to bring both safe care and academic enrichment to Alexandria’s children.”

Samuel Tucker Elementary School joins four other sites operated by The Campagna Center as some of the very few non-military programs in the mid-Atlantic region to achieve this status, which represents the active participation of parents and school administrators, and high standards for activities, facilities and interpersonal relations among staff, children, and families.

Beverly Steele, Interim Director of the Department of Human Services, says, "The Department is very pleased to learn of the accreditation of the before and after school program at Tucker, and we congratulate The Campagna Center on its continued success."

Since 1977 the City of Alexandria has contracted with The Campagna Center, a local nonprofit serving vulnerable children and families, to provide school-age child care in its 13 elementary schools.

In the 2001-2002 School Year, 338 children were served in the before school program and 827 in the after school program. Enrichment activities offered at the various sites include: ballet, math, science, Mars Link, choir, tutoring, computer lab, chess, art, and Book Buddies.
