City of Alexandria Announces Holiday Schedule
For December 24, 25 and January 1

Alexandria City government office will be closed for the holidays on Tuesday, Dec. 24, Wednesday, Dec. 25, and Wednesday, Jan.1.

City schools will be closed beginning on Dec. 23 and will remain closed through Jan. 1. Students will return to school on Thursday, Jan. 2.

There will be no trash and recycling collection services on Dec. 25 and Jan.1. Collection will be delayed by one day for the rest of those weeks. For example, customers whose regular trash day is Thursday will have their trash collected on Friday.

City libraries will be closed on Dec. 24 and Dec.25. They close early, at 5 pm, on Dec. 31 and remain closed on Jan. 1.

All recreation centers will be closed on Dec. 24, Dec. 25, and Jan. 1. On Dec. 31, all full time recreation centers will close at 6 pm.

The Treasury and Revenue Divisions of the Finance Department, which are regularly open on Saturday mornings for payment of property taxes and parking tickets, will be closed on Dec. 24, Dec. 25, Dec. 28, and Jan.1.

DASH bus service will operate on a regular weekday schedule on Dec. 24, with service ending at 7:30 pm that day. There will be no service on Dec. 25. DASH will operate on a regular weekday schedule on Dec. 31 and there will be no service on Jan.1.

In accordance with Virginia State Law, the Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces, as well as time restrictions in residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits, on Dec. 24, and Dec. 25. The same parking suspensions apply on Jan. 1. All other parking regulations will be in effect during the holidays.

Additionally, HOV restrictions on Washington Street and Route 1 will be lifted on Dec. 24, Dec.25, Dec.31, and Jan.1.

State Offices in Alexandria, including the Circuit, General District, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District courts, the Clerk of Court Office and the Alexandria Health Department, will be closed on Dec. 24, Dec. 25, and Jan. 1.
