Alexandria Police Offer Criminal Incident Information On-Line;
Citizens Can Search Data by Crime Type, Location and Date

Beginning today, the Alexandria Police Department will post a database of reported crimes and incidents on-line. By visiting the Alexandria police website at http://www.ci.alexandria.va.us/police/ and clicking On-Line Crime Data Search, anyone can search the database for basic incident information, including type of crime, location, date, status and case number.

Visitors can search all types of incidents or choose from 33 classifications, including Larceny, Destruction of Property, Sex Offenses, Burglary, Robbery and Weapon Law Violations. The search can be narrowed or extended by date, from January 1 of this year through yesterday. Location searches range from City-wide to a whole street to a single block, and the disposition, or status, of the case is also posted.

The On-Line Crime Data Search was developed by Division Chief Philip Antonucci, Database Administrator Heather Reynolds and City Information Technology staff, at the request of Chief Charles E. Samarra. Chief Samarra wanted to provide citizens, business people and visitors an easy way to review current crime data. Says Chief Samarra, "This new tool is great combination of people and technology. Alexandrians now have critical information at their fingertips."
