Alexandria Community Resilience Project to Present One-Act Play

The Alexandria Community Resilience Project will premiere its one-act play, “A Candle In the Night,” on Oct. 18 at 7 pm at the Alexandria Red Cross Chapter House, 123 N. Alfred St. The play was created to promote dialog about resilience, peace and diversity post-9/11, and a post-performance discussion will focus on these themes. Admission to the play is free.

“Drama is a wonderful tool for dialogue and learning,” said Khattab Ahmed, outreach worker and director of the production. “We hope to bring the play and the dialogue it inspires to people all over the City.”

The Alexandria Community Resilience Project is funded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and administered through the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse Services, and locally, by the City of Alexandria. The free services available through the Alexandria Community Resilience Project include individual and group counseling; resource referral; cross cultural community building activities and educational groups on the topics of stress management, emergency preparedness, grief and loss, children and trauma and life skills for youth and teens.

For more information on the play or the work of the Alexandria Community Resilience Project, contact Tricia Bassing at 703.838.6400 or visit www.communityresilience.com.
