Alexandria Man Indicted for Wife’s Murder;
Suspect Held Since July on Malicious Wounding Charge

Today, an Alexandria grand jury indicted Ziad Karim “Paul” Bechara for killing his wife earlier this summer. Bechara, a 39-year-old City resident, is charged with Murder for stabbing Suzanna Bechara, 38, on July 1 in their home in the 3500 block of Gunston Road.

After the attack occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m., Mrs. Bechara, suffering from multiple stab wounds, fled from the home and went to a neighbor for help. She was flown by helicopter to Washington Hospital Center. She underwent surgery but died at 8:58 p.m.

Paul Bechara, who had barricaded himself inside the home, was taken into custody at 11:55 p.m. when the Special Operations Team forcibly entered the home. They found the suspect suffering from self-inflicted stab wounds. He was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he was admitted.

When Bechara was released from the hospital on July 12, he was arrested and charged with Malicious Wounding. He has been held without bond since then.
