City of Alexandria Highlights Decades of Service
Public Service Awards Given to Employees for Dedicated Service

More than 300 employees were honored recently for working between five and 40 years during the City of Alexandria’s 2001 Employees Public Service Awards Program.. The annual program recognizes outstanding public service provided by City employees to the citizens of Alexandria, Virginia. Service awards were presented by Mayor Kerry J. Donley and City Manager Philip Sunderland to employees who have been dedicated to City work for five or more years.

The following individuals were awarded Public Service Awards for 40 years of service: Robert L. Studevent, City Library; Herbert S. Weinshank, Office of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse (MH/MR/SA); and Elizabeth Pratt, Police Department.

Three people were also recognized for 35-years of service: William E. Taylor, MA/MR/SA; William Webster, Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities; and Elfin Huggins, Transportation and Environmental Services (T&ES).

Recognized for 30 years of service were: Brenda J. Williams, Finance; Clyde S. Campbell, Duane McMaster, Don R. Short and Herbert E. Thomas, Fire Department; Mary L. Hill, Human Services; Mark R. Canner, Victoria A. Hall, Patricia I. Miles, Edward W. Sarra, J. Barry Schiftic and Ephthal C. Stanton, Police Department; Anthony W. Armstrong, Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities; Phyllis J. Gallahan, Robert W. Jackson, Joe Louis Jones, Julius Moultrie and Raymond E. Wiley, T&ES.

Employees honored for 25 years were: Edward F. Dadurka, S. Z. Jamgochian and Rose Marie Stewart, Clerk of Court; Sandra Kay Flynn, Terrence E. Kisner, Robert M. Luckett, Larry W. Ritchie, Steven W. Rouser and Aubrey A. Schultz, Fire Department; Thomas J. Hammitte, General Services; Barry J. Bates, Lillie P. Collins and Nancy A. Harrison, Department of Health; Linday M. Dell, Ruth S. Hoehne, John F. Powers and Joan C. Wright, Department of Human Services; Teresa C. Adcock-Stearns, Information Technology Services; Delores A. Brooks, MH/MR/SA; Andrew Fridley, Ruth Ann Green, Gerard Schratz and Susan P. Story, Police Department; John J. Boone, Lawrence Elliott, Michael Hopson and James S. Knight, Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities; Walter C. Grady, T&ES.

In addition, 273 employees were recognized for their five, 10, 15 and 20 years of service.
