Alexandria Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Stabbing;
Local Man Charged in First Homicide Victim This Year

Last night, Alexandria detectives arrested Russell Lorenzo Brown and charged him with Murder for the stabbing death of a homeless man earlier this month. Brown, a 44-year-old man of no fixed address, was arrested without incident at about 4 p.m., on Wednesday, May 29, in the 900 block of North Henry Street. He is charged with the Tuesday, May 7, stabbing of Kevin Lavon Friend, a 45-year-old man with no fixed address, near the corner of Edsall Road and South Reynolds Street.

Investigation revealed that the two men had been arguing and then began to fight. After the victim was stabbed, the suspect fled from the area. The victim was flown to Fairfax Hospital and underwent emergency surgery, but he developed a blood clot and died on Saturday, May 18. Police will not be disclosing the nature of the dispute or a motive for the attack.

Brown is being held without bond at the Alexandria jail.
