Alexandria Police Investigate Shooting and Robbery at ATM;
Off-Duty Police Officer in Good Condition


Alexandria police are investigating a shooting and robbery which occurred earlier this morning at an ATM. At 2:33 a.m., police and medics responded to the corner of Mount Vernon and West Glebe avenues and discovered the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, a 24-year-old man, is a Fairfax County police officer who was off-duty when the crime occurred.

Initial investigation indicates that the victim was at a First Union Bank ATM when the suspect approached him. The suspect, armed with a gun, demanded money from the victim. The victim resisted and they began to struggle. The suspect fired his gun, striking the victim in the arm. The suspect then fled from the scene.

The victim was transported by ambulance to Fairfax Hospital where he has been admitted for observation. He is in good condition.

The suspect is described as a light-complected black male wearing a black shirt and last seen leaving the area in a grey minivan.
