Alexandria Police Arrest Suspect in Stabbing and Robbery;
Local Man Charged with Malicious Wounding as Investigation Continues
Alexandria police have arrested a suspect in Wednesday night’s attack on a 47-year-old Alexandria woman. James E. Brundage, Jr., a 38-year-old Alexandria man, was arrested yesterday and later charged with Malicious Wounding for the May 1 stabbing of the victim as she worked in her yard in the 3300 block of Old Dominion Boulevard. Detectives are also investigating the possibility that Brundage may be a suspect in two recent burglaries in the same Beverley Hills neighborhood where last week’s robbery and stabbing occurred.
Brundage was arrested without incident about 8 a.m., at an acquaintance’s home in Alexandria by members of the Criminal Investigations Section and the Tactical Response Team, a plain-clothes unit which targets serious crimes. Brundage was initially arrested for a probation violation from Fairfax County and then interviewed by detectives. He was charged Saturday night with Malicious Wounding, and additional charges for last week’s incident are pending.
Detectives were led to Brundage after recovering physical evidence near the scene of the attack. They are also investigating whether he may be responsible for the April 30 burglary in the 300 block of Kentucky Avenue and the April 19 break-in the 3900 block of Cameron Mills Drive.
Because of the on-going investigation, police are not releasing a photo of the suspect at this time. Brundage, who has no fixed address, is being held without bond at the Alexandria jail. He will be in court Monday morning, appearing via closed-circuit monitor.
